Ruhk
Spizaetus aepyornisThe ruhk is a massive raptor native to the Arabian peninsula. Its strength and size are so enormous that it is known to carry off elephants and block out the sun with its silhouette. Shafts from its quills are used as water reservoirs. While they have razor-sharp talons, ruhks prefer to drag their prey high into the sky and drop it on the rocks below. After picking the bones clean, they crack them open with their beaks to retrieve the marrow inside. As they mate for life, ruhks are often found hunting in pairs. During the hatching process, the female never leaves the nest and is fed by her mate. Once the chicks have emerged, the parents take turns watching the nest, never leaving it alone until the hatchlings learn to fly.
